Images, video & music
DaLinkz doesn't store your files. You host each image, video or song somewhere else and paste its link into the portal. This guide covers what kind of link works, where to keep your files, and how to fix one that won't show.
The rules every link follows
- It starts with
https://. - It's 255 characters or fewer.
- It has no spaces, quotes or brackets. Rename the file first if its name has any.
- It ends in the file type, such as
.png,.jpg,.gif,.mp4or.mp3. Anything after a?is fine, sophoto.png?raw=1still counts. - It points to the file itself, not a web page that shows the file. See direct links vs share links.
Your visitors' browsers load each file straight from the site you host it on. If that site goes down, deletes the file or blocks other sites from showing it, your page shows a blank space instead. Pick somewhere reliable and keep your own copy of every file.

Direct links vs share links
Most cloud storage and social sites give you a share link, which opens a web page with your file in it, plus buttons, menus and sometimes a sign-in. A page can't be used as a photo or a song. You need a direct link, which opens only the file.
How to test a link
- Open a private or incognito window.
- Paste the link into the address bar.
- If you see only your image, or only a video or audio player on a plain background, it's a direct link. If you see a website around it, or you're asked to sign in, it isn't.
Many hosts have a "Direct link" option in their share menu. Use that one. It usually starts with a different address, such as i. or files. instead of www..
Where to host your files
Good choices
- Your own website. If you already have one, upload the files there. You're in control and the links never change.
- File hosts that give a direct link, such as image2url (
image2url.com) or videotourl (videotourl.com). Both take images, GIFs, .mp4 video and .mp3 music. Copy the link that ends in the file type, such as .png, .gif, .mp4 or .mp3. - Snipboard (
snipboard.io). It gives you a link likehttps://snipboard.io/example.jpg, which opens a web page. Addi.to the start so it readshttps://i.snipboard.io/example.jpg, which is the image itself. - Dropbox, if you change the end of the share link from
dl=0toraw=1. This is fine for a small page, but Dropbox can switch off links that get a lot of traffic.
Avoid
- Discord attachments. Their links stop working after about a day.
- Google Drive, OneDrive and iCloud. They only give share links, never a direct link ending in the file type.
- Images copied from Instagram, TikTok, X or Facebook. These links expire and are often blocked on other sites.
- Imgur. It's blocked in the UK, so UK visitors see a broken image.
- YouTube, Spotify or SoundCloud links in the music or background fields. They're pages, not files. To send people to your music or videos, add them as a social handle or button instead.
We aren't connected to any of these services. Check their rules before you upload, especially for music, and keep a copy of everything in case a host removes a file.
Sizes and formats
Visitors load every file on your page, often on mobile data. Smaller files mean your page opens faster.
| Field | Recommended | Tips |
|---|---|---|
| Profile photo | Square, about 400×400px | It's shown in a circle, so keep your face in the middle. Animated .gif photos should stay under about 2 MB. |
| Background image | About 1920×1080px, under 1 MB | Use .jpg for photos and .png for flat graphics. Busy images make your links harder to read. |
| Background video | A short loop of 5 to 20 seconds, 1080p or smaller, under 10 MB | It plays muted and on repeat, so sound is wasted. Some phones in battery-saver mode show a still frame instead. |
| Button image | Under 128×128px for an icon, larger for a picture card | Small images replace the button's icon. Bigger ones turn the button into a picture card. |
| Cursor | Up to 128×128px | 32×32px is a typical cursor size. Use a .png or .gif with a transparent background. |
| Favicon | Square, 32×32 to 64×64px | Simple shapes read best at tab size. |
| Music | .mp3 at 128 to 192 kbps | A 3-minute track at 128 kbps is about 3 MB. |
| Link preview | 1200×630px | Keep text away from the edges, because some apps crop the image. |
Background music
Browsers don't let pages play sound until the visitor clicks something. So when you add music, your page opens blurred behind a short message, “Click to enter” unless you change it. The visitor's first click clears the blur and starts the track, which loops. A small play, mute and volume control then sits in the bottom-left corner.
- The link must be a direct link to an
.mp3file. Links to streaming services won't work. - Want people to find your music on Spotify, SoundCloud or YouTube? Add them under Profile → Social handles, or, on Pro, add a custom button with the Music type.
- Only use music you have the rights to. See your media, your rights.
Link preview image
This is the picture that appears when your DaLinkz link is pasted into Discord, X, WhatsApp and other apps. Set it under Sharing. Without one, the preview shows the first letter of your name.
- It still has to be a direct link to the image. Some screenshot and image sites send apps a web page instead of the picture, so the preview ends up blank. If that happens, use the host's direct link, which often starts with
i.. - Apps remember previews. After you change the image, a link posted earlier can keep the old picture for a while. New posts pick up the change sooner.
Your media, your rights
Only use images, video and music you own or have permission to use. If someone reports media on your page as theirs and the complaint is valid, we remove that media, and repeated or serious cases can lose the whole page. Our Terms of Service have the details.
Something not showing?
“The URL must be a full https:// link”
Check that the link starts with https:// and has no spaces, quotes or brackets, which are common in file names. Rename the file, upload it again and copy the new link.
“The photo must be a link ending in .png or .jpg”
You've probably pasted a share link. Use the host's direct link, see direct links vs share links. If the file really is a .gif or .mp4, that option needs Pro.
The link saved, but the page shows nothing
- Open the link in a private window. If it doesn't load there, it has expired, been deleted or needs a sign-in.
- Some hosts stop other sites from showing their files. Try a different host from the list above.
- Pasted from Discord? That link has expired. Host the file somewhere permanent.
Music won't play
Music starts only after the visitor clicks the blurred screen. If it still stays silent, check that the link opens an audio player on its own in a private window, and that the visitor's device isn't muted.
The video background is a still image or missing
Phones in battery-saver or data-saver mode often block videos from playing on their own. Very large files can also take a long time to start, so make the file smaller (see sizes and formats).
