Documentation / Sharing & link previews
Sharing & link previews
When you paste your DaLinkz link into Discord, X, WhatsApp, iMessage and similar apps, they show a little card with a title, a line of text and an image. You choose what goes on that card under Sharing in the portal. It's free on every page.
The three fields
| Field | Limit | If you leave it blank |
|---|---|---|
| Title | 70 characters | Your display name is used. |
| Description | 200 characters | The line is left out. |
| Image | A link to an image | Your first initial fills the image space. |
The Live preview beside the form shows roughly how your card will look. Every app frames it a little differently, so treat it as a guide.
Choosing an image
- Size: about 1200×630px, a wide 1.91:1 rectangle. Keep important text and faces away from the edges, because some apps crop.
- Direct link: like every image on DaLinkz, this must be a link to the image file itself. Some screenshot and image sites send apps a web page instead of the picture, which leaves the preview blank. Use the host's direct link, which often starts with
i.. See direct links vs share links. - Stay readable small: previews are often shown as thumbnails. Bold, simple images work best.
- Rights: only use images you're allowed to use.
Why an old preview still shows
Chat and social apps save a copy of each link's preview the first time they see it, and keep reusing it for a while. So after you change your title, description or image:
- Messages you posted before keep the old preview. That's normal.
- New posts usually pick up the change, but some apps take a while.
- To force a fresh preview straight away, post the link with something unique on the end, such as
dalinkz.com/yourlink?v=2. It still opens your page, but the app treats it as a new link. Change the number each time you test.
